At age 64 I got the idea that I wanted to learn to play guitar. At first, I tried random tutorials on the web, but I quickly got the impression that many had just learned to play a number or two and now wanted to show how good they were! I didn't learn from that. Then I tried different evening classes, but the teachers didn't get into my situation - I couldn't do anything (not even moving my fingers as I wanted). Coincidentally, I saw James's lesson in John Denver's "Leaving on a Jetplane" and immediately fell for his systematic approach to teaching. I therefore signed up for his beginner course and was not disappointed. It was exactly what I needed: a gradual introduction to different chords - and especially how to switch between the individual chords. Some about rhythm with eg clapping exercises, so you get it all the way under the skin. I have completed the beginner course and am now on the barre course and am still very satisfied. It's still hard for me, but small gradual progress makes me still think it's fun. Therefore, my best recommendations by James and his courses. Jesper Hermansen Denmark

Finally! I've been playing guitar for years and afraid of the dreaded "F" barre. Now I'm learning how to play more than "F" and strengthening my hand.

As a very raw beginner to guitar, and a "senior" at that, I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience with the 7 Day Beginner Challenge. The course has been well designed for beginners at any age, and James presents and teaches in a way that is easy to pick up on. A feature I have used is one that allows you to go back and re-do a certain day, for instance maybe repeat Day 5, for re-enforcement. And, yes, when all was said and done, I did learn to play Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones. I am also in the middle of the Learn Guitar Once and For All Course. It is a great course and I am making great progress. I love the work James has done in putting this together. I give "GoodGuitarist" 5 stars for sure. Thanks James.

About The Instructor (James)

I first picked up a guitar at age 17. I was at a friend’s house. He showed me how to play the riff from “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and I was immediately hooked. Several thousand hours of practice, performance and one music degree later, I found myself wondering “what next?”

I taught at music schools for a while, but teaching “out of the book” wasn’t for me. I was determined to make my home practice work. That’s when I had the idea to make a YouTube channel to help promote my lessons.

It was challenging at first – I was writing, filming and editing everything by myself (still do!). It took a (long) couple of weeks to film and edit my first tutorial. But it was all worth it because after it went up, I could tell there was something special happening.

Guitar students began writing to me from all over the world. On top of that, my home teaching studio was thriving. The more I taught, online and in person, the more I learned about teaching all types of learners. This helped me create the easiest-to-follow lessons on the web and has fueled my desire to make my channel bigger and better. It continues to grow today, faster than ever, with millions of views and counting.
